In week 10 David Johnson was the super chalk play even though his price tag was a massive $8400, which was the highest of any running back to this point in the season. I was still on him though and he did still have a solid week with 27.1 DK points at around 50% ownership. The game actually stayed close with the 49ers, which I did not expect, so hopefully you steered clear of Andre Ellington, who didn’t get to clean up in garbage time as I anticipated. My other play was Jordan Howard, who was able to hit the 100 yard plateau in rushing yards, but didn’t add any scores to finish with 13 DK points.
DeMarco Murray ($8200)
Murray had yet another monster week this past Sunday, putting up 31 DK points thanks to 123 yards on the ground, including a TD, and 2 catches for 33 yards through the air. Murray has now broken the 20 point plateau on DK for four weeks in a row and for 9 out of 10 weeks this year. He’s been the most consistent running back in the NFL and he has a great match up this week in Indianapolis. Murray scored 24.7 DK points against the Colts in Tennessee in week 7 and I expect a similar output this weekend, even though the Titans are on the road.
LeGarrette Blount ($6400)
Blount is in the perfect spot this week against a 49ers defense that cannot stop the run. The 49ers actually performed much better against the ground attack last week, only giving up 80 yards rushing to one of the best RB’s in the league in David Johnson, but you cannot overlook the previous 3 games where they gave up a total of 810 yards on the ground. Belichick is known for attacking a defense where it is weakest and I expect the Pats to attack on the ground this Sunday. Add in the fact that one of Brady’s biggest weapons is injured with Gronk unlikely to play and I think it’s a safe week for Blount.
He’s not the type of guy I normally roster simply because he’s not involved in the passing game, but against this 49ers defense I think it’s a safe expectation that he gets in the end zone at least once and maybe 2 or 3 times.
Theo Riddick ($5100)
I think Riddick is a very interesting play this week. It seems like he would have a good match up at home against the Jags, but FootballOutsiders.com actually have Jacksonville ranked #1 in the league DVOA against opposing running back pass catchers, which is where Riddick racks up most of his points. That said, the Jags have not faced anyone with a running back nearly as dynamic catching passes out of the backfield as Riddick yet this year, so I’m taking that stat with a grain of salt. You also need to factor in that Riddick has been running the ball through tackles in some games this year and has received 10+ carries every week he’s been in the lineup except for week 1, so he does also have the opportunity to rack up points on the ground as well.
This week you will need to pay down somewhere and getting Riddick at $5100 is a great value in my opinion. He’s broken 26 points in 3 of his 7 games this season and if he has a big game again here he will absolutely smash value.
