It’s a strange week 16 at DraftKings. Christmas is on Sunday this year, so the main NFL slate is now on Saturday with 12 games being played on Christmas Eve day. There are still a couple games on Christmas, as well as a Thursday and a Monday game, but none of these will be included in the main Saturday slate at DK.
Last week I thought you needed to take one of the high priced RB’s and hopefully you took David Johnson who had another solid game with 26.8 DK points. Le’Veon Bell came back down to reality after his 54 point week 14 game with a sub par 18.1. I also thought it could be a Blount week, but it ended up being Dion Lewis who took several carries for the Pats taking 18 carries for 95 yards, while Blount only received 17 carries for 31 yards.
Let’s get into my top 3 RB plays for this Saturday slate at DK. I’m staying off of Johnson and Bell isn’t an option, so lineup construction will be very different this week.
DeMarco Murray ($7000)
Murray hasn’t had a huge game in a few weeks, but he seems to be fully healthy getting around 20 carries and 5 targets each week and he after a couple of tough matchups against the Chiefs and Broncos he now draws the Jags who have had trouble stopping the run this year. Murray has a decent 15 point floor in this game, but I think he has the ability to put up points in the high 20’s like he’s done several times this season. Murray put up 22.8 DK points against the Jags in week 8.
There is the worry that the Titans will give the goal line carries to Derrick Henry who had 2 TD’s last week to Murray’s 1, but if Murray can find the end zone without being vultured he has a chance to be the highest scoring RB this week.
Jordan Howard ($6300)
Howard is another guy who has a lot of upside this week against a Redskins defense that is 28th against running backs on DraftKings. They have a short week having played on Monday and they gave up 148 rushing yards to the Panthers in that game. Washington has made a habit of giving up more than 100 rushing yards to opponents this season and with Howard being the feature back in Chicago I think there is a great chance he breaks the 100 point plateau.
Add in the fact that he gets around 4 targets a game in the passing game and I think he’s a great play this week. Chicago QB Matt Barkley has also shown the ability to go deep in the past couple games, which should keep the defense honest and allow Howard some room to work. I think this game could stay close throughout with the Bears actually having a decent shot for the win, which will keep Howard involved throughout.
Dion Lewis ($4100)
If you’re looking to pay down at running back I think Dion Lewis is a great option at $4100. I mentioned earlier that he actually got 1 more carry than LaGarrette Blount last game and was far more effecting taking his 18 carries for 95 yards. He also had 2 catches last game and I expect him to get more use in the passing game this week as the Pats gear up for the playoffs.
There is the worry that the Pats get up big early in this one and Blount just pounds the ball for the second half, but Lewis always has upside so at this price he’s worth a few shares.
