CFL Week 7 Betting Picks 2018

I went 1-2 with my CFL picks last week, which brings my season record to 6-5 on the games I’ve given picks on through week 6.  The big news in the CFL this week is that Johnny Manziel has been traded to the Montreal Alouettes.  The Als play Thursday night this week, so we will likely finally get to see Johnny Football in a regular season game in just a few days.  The oddsmakers don’t have a line out for that game, so for the purposes of this article I won’t be making a pick on that game.  It’s a tall task for Manziel to get some wins for this Alouettes team that has only scored 69 points in 5 games so far this season, but if he can turn this team around people will definitely take notice.

I will be using the odds from SportsInteraction.com for my CFL picks throughout the season.  They are our top rated sportsbook for Canadians.  Check out our full SIA review here.

I’ve also added a 3 step guide to betting on the CFL, so check that page out if you want to get some action on these games this week.

Toronto Argonauts vs Winnipeg Blue Bombers

  • Toronto +11
  • Winnipeg -11

The Bombers destroyed the Argos 38-20 last week in Toronto and these teams will meet once again in the second of a home and away in Winnipeg this Friday.  The game was a pick’em in Toronto and I think this 11 point spread is a bit of recency bias based on the score of that week 6 game.

Don’t get me wrong, Winnipeg deserves to be a big favourite in this game against a weak Toronto team, but 11 points seems a little bit excessive.  I would have the spread around 9.5.  There isn’t a ton of value in this play, but if I’m forced to bet I would take the points and go with the defending Grey Cup champs looking to get revenge for last weeks loss.

Play: Argonauts +11

Ottawa Redblacks vs Hamilton Tiger-Cats

  • Ottawa +4
  • Hamilton -4

All of the talk in Hamilton this week was about the Johnny Manziel trade, where the Ti-Cats were able to turn their backup quarterback into a great return that included defensive end Jamaal Westerman and Chris Williams, as well as two first round draft picks.  That said, it will take those players a week or two to learn the Ti-Cats playbook and make an impact on the games.  I think this Manziel story could distract the team and cause a bit of an adrenaline dump after the team has dealt with the media storm surrounding Manziel from training camp.

The Redblacks are playing solid football this season and I expect another solid game after a big win at home over the Lions last week.  Look for the Redblacks to pull out the win in Hamilton and add some more cushion for the East Division title.

Play: Redblacks +4

Calgary Stampeders @ Saskatchewan Roughriders

  • Calgary -6.5
  • Saskatchewan +6.5

Yet again, Calgary is on another level in this CFL season.  Calgary has only given up 46 points in 5 games this season, while scoring 145 points.  That means they are outscoring opponents by more than 3 times in their games this season.

The Roughriders secured a couple big wins in a home and away with Hamilton over the past 3 weeks, but they have yet to play a game against a West Division team this year.  The West is once again much better than the East and the Riders are only 3-2 so far this season, while being outscored 110-115 by East Division competition.

Yes, the Stampeders have also played all 5 of their games against the East, but they have done what they are supposed to and absolute dominate every one of those games.  Calgary should be able to win this game by more than a touchdown.

Play: Stampeders -6.5
