Country House won the 2019 Kentucky Derby in controversial fashion after Maximum Security was DQ’d after the race for drifting out of his lane around the corner. Unfortunately, Country House, will not be participating in this years Preakness, which means there will not be a Triple Crown winner this year.
The Kentucky Derby winner is almost always the favourite heading into the Preakness, but seeing as both Country House and Maximum Security (who was the fastest horse on the day) are not running, it is Improbable, who was the Derby final odds favourite (finishing 4th) who is the favourite this Saturday. War Of Will is the other horse with short odds because he was one of the horses who may have been interfered with at the Derby (finishing 7th).
Even though the Preakness will lack the fanfare of a potential Triple Crown winner, the Preakness Stakes is still a popular race shown on national TV and this years field is full of quality horses. Because of this I’m writing this how to guide to betting on the Preakness in 2019.
Bet On 2019 Preakness Stakes in Canada – Step By Step Guide
#1. Open a Horse Race Betting Account
First you’ll need to open an online betting account at a site with a strong racebook. I will personally be betting on this race at SportsInteraction.com, our top rated sportsbook for Canadian residents. They’re offering a 100% up to $200 sign up bonus and their racebook is my favourite in the industry. It’s very easy for new bettors to understand, so I highly recommend it. Here’s a full SIA review if you want more information.

#2. Fund Your Account
Next up, you need to make a deposit in order to have some funds with which to bet on the Preakness. Check out our deposit options page for in depth information on some of the various deposit options available at SportsInteraction.com.
Remember that the bonus offer is a 100% matching bonus up to $200, so in order to take full advantage of the bonus you’ll need to deposit $200 or more. I go into more details on the SIA bonus on the review page.
#3. Place Your Preakness Stakes Bets
Now that you have money in your account you’re ready to bet.
Leading Up To Race Day
If you’re eager to get your bets placed before race day you can do so in the SportsInteraction.com Sportsbook. Click on the ‘Horse Racing’ tab followed by ‘Preakness Stakes’. This will bring up the Preakness Stakes winner odds. These odds are fixed odds and are not parimutuel odds like the race day odds will be. This means your bets are locked in at the odds you place your bets at.
On Race Day
On race day you should head to the Sports Interaction Racebook. To find this page click on ‘Racebook’ from the top navigation on the SportsInteraction.com website. Next you can either select ‘Pimlico Racecourse’ from the ‘Thoroughbred’ menu, or else simply select ‘Preakness Stakes’ from the ‘Featured Races’ tab.
The odds you will see on race day are the odds using the parimutuel betting system. This means that the odds for your bets can change depending on how many bets are placed on the various horses throughout the day. More on this on the our parimutuel betting page here.
You will also notice that there are ‘Win, Place or Show’ betting options on the main betting page and you can also navigate to exotic bets such as ‘Exacta’, ‘Trifecta’ and more. If you’re new to the sport and don’t understand these wagers I’d suggest giving a quick look over the horse racing betting page here at the site.
