This years Preakness Stakes is the final leg of the Triple Crown after it was postponed from its regularly scheduled date on the third Saturday of May, to this coming Saturday, October 3rd. Tiz the Law won the Belmont Stakes back in June, but he finished second to Authentic at the Kentucky Derby a few weeks ago, so we will not have a Triple Crown winner crowned at this years Preakness Stakes.
Authentic will be in the Preakness Stakes field as the 9-5 favourite after his win at the Derby. Art Collector will be his main competition at odds of 5-2. Art Collector did not compete in the other two Triple Crown races this year, but he is riding a five race winning streak and has faster winning times than Authentic. Swiss Skydiver and Thousand Words are the other two contenders in the field.
Even though the Preakness will lack the fanfare of a potential Triple Crown winner, the Preakness Stakes is still a popular race shown on national TV and this years field is full of quality horses. Because of this I’m writing this how to guide to betting on the Preakness in 2020.
Bet On 2020 Preakness Stakes in Canada – Step By Step Guide
#1. Open a Horse Race Betting Account
First you’ll need to open an online betting account at a site with a strong racebook. I will personally be betting on this race at SportsInteraction.com, our top rated sportsbook for Canadian residents. They’re offering a 100% up to $200 sign up bonus and their racebook is my favourite in the industry. It’s very easy for new bettors to understand, so I highly recommend it. Here’s a full SIA review if you want more information.

#2. Fund Your Account
Next up, you need to make a deposit in order to have some funds with which to bet on the Preakness. Check out our deposit options page for in depth information on some of the various deposit options available at SportsInteraction.com.
Remember that the bonus offer is a 100% matching bonus up to $200, so in order to take full advantage of the bonus you’ll need to deposit $200 or more. I go into more details on the SIA bonus on the review page.
#3. Place Your Preakness Stakes Bets
Now that you have money in your account you’re ready to bet.
Leading Up To Race Day
If you’re eager to get your bets placed before race day you can do so in the SportsInteraction.com Sportsbook. Click on the ‘Horse Racing’ tab followed by ‘Preakness Stakes’. This will bring up the Preakness Stakes winner odds. These odds are fixed odds, not parimutuel odds like the race day odds will be. This means your bets are locked in at the odds you place your bets at.
On Race Day
On race day you should head to the Sports Interaction Racebook. To find this page click on ‘Racebook’ from the top navigation on the SportsInteraction.com website. Next you can either select ‘Pimlico Racecourse’ from the ‘American Thoroughbred’ menu, or else simply select ‘Preakness Stakes’ from the ‘Featured Races’ tab.
The odds you will see on race day are the odds using the parimutuel betting system. This means that the odds for your bets can change depending on how many bets are placed on the various horses throughout the day. More on this on the our parimutuel betting page here.
You will also notice that there are ‘Win, Place or Show’ betting options on the main betting page and you can also navigate to exotic bets such as ‘Exacta’, ‘Trifecta’ and more. If you’re new to the sport and don’t understand these wagers I’d suggest giving a quick look over the horse racing betting page here at the site.
