Canelo Alvarez will attempt to continue building his boxing legacy when he challenges Dmitry Bivol for the WBA (Super) light heavyweight title this Saturday, May 7th. The fight will take place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and be broadcast on DAZN pay-per-view.
Canelo is considered by many to be the pound-for-pound best boxer in the world. He had a terrific 2021 that saw him defend his super middleweight titles three times, while adding the WBO super middleweight belt by defeating Billy Joe Saunders in 8 rounds and the IBF super middleweight belt by defeating Caleb Plant via 11th round TKO. Canelo will now move up to light heavyweight in an attempt to add the WBA light heavyweight title to his collection.
Canelo has fought at light heavyweight once before in his career, defeating Sergey Kovalev to win the WBO light heavyweight title via 11th round knockout in 2019. Kovalev was 36 years old at the time, while at 31 years old Dmitry Bivol is in the prime of his career. Bivol is undefeated with an 19-0 record in his career, while defending the WBA light-heavyweight title 8 times.
