FIFA World Cup Betting Picks For June 23rd

I’m adding these picks after the Nigeria win, which was able to get me back to basically break even for my World Cup match bets this tournament.  I was on the Brazil vs Costa Rica draw at odds of 7.75, which was so close to coming through for me earlier today, with Brazil needing until added time to break the tie.  A win on that draw play would have gave me a nice buffer for profit moving forward.  My record now sits at 9-12 for -0.21 units.

I will be using the best odds available from any of our top rated betting sites for Canadians.  The odds often change leading up to matches so be sure to compare odds when making your wagers to make sure you’re getting the best value.

Belgium vs Tunisia

  • Belgium 1.36
  • Draw 5.43
  • Tunisia 10.00

Belgium came alive in the second half of their match with Panama and we got to see glimpses of the quality that the Belgian side has coming forward.  Belgium plays their second match before England vs Panama, so they will surely want to pick up the full 3 points in this match to keep pace with England heading into their meeting, which will likely decide the group winner.

A draw is a possibility here, but I think Belgium has too much elite talent up front for Tunisia to hold them to 1 or fewer goals, and 2 or more goals will surely be enough for the 3 points for Belgium in this match.

Play: Belgium 1.36

South Korea vs Mexico

  • South Korea 6.22
  • Draw 4.17
  • Mexico 1.70

I was high on Sweden to beat South Korea and they narrowly squeaked out a win thanks to a successful penalty.  The match was actually very tight, but Sweden has some of the most organized defense in the tournament.  Mexico is also a quality defensive team as shown by their 1-0 win over Germany in their opener, but I actually think they have more talent than Sweden as well and they should be able to break down this South Korean defense more than was shown by the Swedish side.

I still believe South Korea to be one of the weakest sides at the World Cup, and I think Mexico should get the 3 points in this one and all-but solidify their spot in the knockout round.

Play: Mexico 1.70

Germany vs Sweden

  • Germany 1.50
  • Draw 5.00
  • Sweden 7.50

I was not impressed by Germany in their match with Mexico.  They could not get anything going offensively and when Mexico attacked there were significant holes in the German defense.  Germany struggled in their build-up matches for the World Cup, losing to Austria 2-1 and only squeaking out a 2-1 win over Saudi Arabian side that has shown themselves to be one of the weaker teams in this World Cup.  Perhaps this form has continued for Germany into the World Cup, in which case I am afraid it could be a short tournament for the Germans.

That said, Germany should still carry the play against this organized Sweden side that puts defense first.  Sweden was somewhat lucky to get 3 points out of their first match against South Korea and they will surely be happy to lock down the Germans and look to earn a point.  Sweden tied both Peru and Denmark 0-0 in their two June tune-up matches for the World Cup and I would not be surprised to see the first 0-0 score line of the World Cup in this match.
