FIFA World Cup Betting Picks for June 22nd

This article is going up after a tough day where I went 0-3 for my picks and saw my World Cup record drop into the red.  My FIFA World Cup match picks are now 8-11 for -1.09 units.  After starting the tournament hitting some big bets I’ve missed out on some juicy underdog plays.  I will be looking to be back in profit after tomorrow’s matches.

I will be using the best odds available from any of our top rated betting sites for Canadians.  The odds often change leading up to matches so be sure to compare odds when making your wagers to make sure you’re getting the best value.

Brazil vs Costa Rica

  • Brazil 1.22
  • Draw 7.75
  • Costa Rica 19.00

Brazil should win this game, but the powerhouse nations have been having trouble winning matches at this World Cup and at these odds I don’t think there’s a ton of value in Brazil to win.  Costa Rica played a solid game against Serbia and fell 1-0, but I think they will be able to make things difficult for Neymar and company in this match and squeak out a result to keep their dreams of advancing alive.  I don’t really see Costa Rica winning because I think Brazil would be able to find a goal if their backs were against the wall, but I could see this match finishing either 0-0 or 1-1, so I’m happy to take these huge odds and hope for a draw.

Nigeria vs Iceland

  • Nigeria 2.88
  • Draw 3.25
  • Iceland 2.80

I think Nigeria is better than they looked in their opening 2-0 loss to Croatia.  We saw Croatia beat Argentina 3-0 today and look like a team who is a real threat to go deep in this World Cup.  I still believe Nigeria is the best nation out of Africa and with Senegal earning an impressive win over Poland this past week I’m sure Nigeria will be looking to also get a big win and keep their hopes of advancing alive in this match.

Iceland was able to shut down Argentina for the most part, but they have been susceptible to conceding goals against somewhat weaker opponents and I’m not sure they will be able to duplicate that defensive unity against Nigeria.  Let’s not forget that Iceland tied Ghana 2-2 and lost to Norway 3-2 in their two World Cup tune up games.  These were both against non-World Cup teams and back in March they lost to Peru 3-1 and Mexico 3-0 as well.  I think the expectations for this Iceland team may be growing too quickly and Nigeria should be able to find a way to win this match and put some reality back into this World Cup.

Serbia vs Switzerland

  • Serbia 2.71
  • Draw 3.00
  • Switzerland 3.10

This is a game between two very evenly matched European nations.  I’m going to side with Switzerland though because I think they actually looked better in their draw against Brazil than Serbia did in their win over Costa Rica.

Switzerland also tied Spain 1-1 in a tune-up match for the World Cup and beat Japan 2-0.  They’ve shown the ability to hang with the elite teams in the world while being able to find a way to win against the teams under that level.  I think Serbia is just slightly under that level.  This is a match between two very even teams, but based on the odds and the teams past results I think Switzerland getting the win and setting up an interesting end to this group is the most likely.

Play: Switzerland 3.10

Again, these odds can change leading up to the matches, so be sure to check and compare the odds for each match yourself before placing your bets.
