FIFA World Cup Betting Picks for June 20th

I’m writing this article after the huge Japan win over Colombia and during the Senegal vs Poland game.  My record to this point in the tournament is 6-5 for +4.56 units, which includes all of my plays up to this Senegal match.

As usual I will be using the best odds available at any of our top rated betting sites for Canadians.  The odds do often change leading up to the matches so be sure to compare odds when making your wagers to make sure you’re getting the best value.

Portugal vs Morocco

  • Portugal 1.66
  • Draw 4.23
  • Morocco 6.80

Portugal earned a big point against Spain in their opening match thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo’s big hat trick.  That said, outside of Ronaldo, I don’t think this Portuguese team is really all that strong and I think they will have difficulty earning a result against Morocco.  Let’s not forget that Portugal tied all 3 of their group games at Euro 2016, and didn’t actually win a match in regulation until the semi-finals win over Wales, en route to winning the whole tournament.  Basically, Portugal has no issue with drawing games.  They also tied two of their three tune-up matches.

Morocco lost to Iran, but they were the better team in that match.  They controlled 68% of the possession and outshot Iran 13-9.  Allowing that late goal really puts their backs to the wall.  That said, I still expect them to play a defensive style in this match and try to win this game 1-0.

I could see this match ending 0-0 or 1-1, but betting on a draw is definitely the sharp bet.

Uruguay vs Saudia Arabia

  • Uruguay 1.16
  • Draw 8.50
  • Saudi Arabia 21.00

I don’t like taking this big of favourites in the World Cup, but I just can’t see how Uruguay doesn’t win this match.  They have two elite strikers who will be looking to score early and often in this one after having a rough go against Egypt in their opener.

Uruguay should win this match easily, so even at just 1.16, taking Uruguay is probably the best bet.

Iran vs Spain

  • Iran 21.00
  • Draw 7.50
  • Spain 1.19

Iran does not have a Cristiano Ronaldo to score three goals and keep Spain from winning this game.  Spain showed their talent in the Portugal game, but a few miscues on defense and the Ronaldo show caused that game to end in a draw.  Spain will know they need to win this match and I don’t expect them to have much difficulty breaking down this Iranian defense to find the back of the net at least a couple times and get the win.

Again, I don’t like taking favourites this big in the World Cup, but in this case it’s warranted.
