The World Cup Finals is set. France will take on Croatia at Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow this Sunday with the world watching. France was able to hold off Belgium to win 1-0 in their semi-finals match-up, while Croatia was forced to mount a spirited comeback to win 2-1 in extra time, after falling 1-0 down early in their semi-final game.
I wasn’t able to get my semi-final picks up at the site, but I went 1-3 in the quarterfinals for -0.25 units (hit Belgium as the underdog). My match betting record for the World Cup now sits at 24-28 for +2.63 units.

Again, Croatia is not being given much of a chance in this match by the oddsmakers. France is the overwhelming favourite to win the World Cup Finals after advancing from the much more difficult side of the draw. That said, this is a soccer match between two elite teams playing at a very high level, so anything can happen.
In my eyes, Croatia played a very strong match against England. They had their backs against the wall early, so they were forced to attack, but even after they leveled the match midway through the second half, Croatia looked like the more likely team to score, while it was England that looked to be playing for penalties.
With elite players thorough the middle of the field such as Modric, Rakitic and Perisic, I don’t think it’s wise to underestimate this Croatian side.
My favourite play for 90 minutes of action is for these teams to be level whether it’s 0-0 or 1-1. France has played terrific defensive football keeping a clean sheet in 4 of their last 5 games, but in the Argentina game they showed they are susceptible to goals against. Croatia has not kept a clean sheet since game 2 of the group stage, but they’ve always shown resilience and the ability to find big goals. I think if either team scores an early goal that the opponent has a great shot at tying things up and forcing extra time.

Even though I think this game has a great chance of going to extra time, I think France is still the best bet to lift the trophy. Whether they get it done in regulation time, extra time or a penalty shootout, I think France will get this done more than 2 times out of 3, which makes them a good bet at the above odds.
