2017 NBA Finals – Cavs vs Warriors Series Pick

The NBA playoffs have been very anticlimactic to this point.  Both the Warriors and Cavs rolled through the first three rounds with the Warriors going 12-0 and the Cavs going 12-1 to get to the Finals.  Each team had much easier roads than anticipated with the Warriors getting a huge break with Kawhi Leonard going down in the first game with the Spurs, and the Cavs were able to beat both the Raps and Celtics without their top players in Lowry and Thomas respectively.  All of that aside though we now get the Finals matchup that everyone was hoping for and it kind of feels like this is when the 2017 NBA Playoffs is really set to begin.

This will be the third finals meeting in a row between these two teams with the Warriors winning a couple years back, before the Cavs stormed back from 3-1 down to win the Championship last year.

2017 NBA Finals Winner Odds

  • Cleveland Cavaliers 3.15
  • Golden State Warriors 1.42

The Warriors are big favourites and rightfully so.  They added Kevin Durant in the offseason to join a team that went 73-9 last year.  They’ve now gone 12-0 in the playoffs to this point and could be looking to become the first team in NBA history to go 16-0 in the playoffs.

That said, you cannot count out the Cavaliers.  Lebron James can take over games by himself and this team seems to have found their game at the right time after a mediocre ending to the regular season.

My Pick

I will have plenty of action on the Golden State Warriors to win this series and redeem themselves from last year.  The addition of Kevin Durant has made this Warriors team nearly untouchable in my opinion.  Durant is another offensive weapon for the Warriors and it’s nearly impossible for this team to have an off night when they have Durant, Curry and Thompson all tossing up 3-pointers.

Add in Draymond Green who has the ability to slow down Lebron and I just don’t see this Warriors team losing again.  Last year, Green’s suspension really hurt the Warriors because it allowed the Cavs back into the series when the Warriors should have been closing it out in game 5 at home.  The Cavs then won game 6 in Cleveland, and everyone knows that anything can happen in a game 7.  You can be sure that Green will be ready to go in this series and that he has been waiting for redemption for a year.

You obviously can never count out Lebron James, but it will take an absolutely monstrous performance from Lebron to even just keep the Cavs in this series.

I think there is a better chance of the Warriors sweeping the series than the Cavs winning the title this year.  I will be splitting my action between the Warriors to win the series and the 8/1 odds of a Warriors sweep.

Play: Warriors 1.42
