Seattle Mariners @ Toronto Blue Jays May 22nd

This evening the Toronto Blue Jays begin a 3 game series at home with the Seattle Mariners.

The Toronto Blue Jays were victorious last night as they notched an 8-4 win at home versus the Los Angeles Angels. The Blue Jays won 2 of the 4 meetings with the Angels in the series. They outscored the Angels 23-17 in the 4 games. Starting pitcher R.A. Dickey got the win last night as he pitched a complete game. He gave up 4 earned runs on 5 hits. He walked 2 and struck out 7 batters. He threw 107 pitches in the game. 1st baseman Edwin Encarnacion was 1 for 4 with a home run and 3 rbis. It was his 10th home run of the season and he now has 28 rbis. Left-fielder Danny Valencia was 1 for 4 with a home run and 1 run batted in. Shortstop Ryan Goins was 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and a walk. The Blue Jays had 10 hits in the game. Tonight their starting pitcher is right-handed Marco Estrada. Estrada is 1-2 with a 3.55 era and 26 strikeouts in 25.1 innings pitched this season. He’s made 3 starts this season. His last start was on May 16th at Houston, a no-decision, as he pitched 5 innings while giving up 2 earned runs on 3 hits. This is his 8th season in MLB, his first with Toronto. Catcher Welington Castillo was 1 for 4 with a run batted in and a run scored. He struck out twice. 1st baseman Logan Morrison was 0 for 4 with 1 run batted in. He was walked once and struck out twice. He now has 12 rbis on the season. Shortstop Chris Taylor had a stolen base, his 2nd of the season. Tonight their starting pitcher is right-handed ace Felix Hernandez. Hernandez is 6-1 with a 2.30 era and 55 strikeouts in 54.2 innings pitched this season. After going 6-0 in his 1st 7 starts he was pegged with a loss in his last start on May 16th at home versus Boston. In the loss he pitched 6 innings while allowing 4 earned runs on 7 hits. He gave up 2 home runs. He struck out 5 while walking 4 batters. This is his 11th season in MLB, all 11 with the Mariners. He has a 131-93 career record with a 3.05 era.

Prediction: The Mariners have their ace on the mound and with the exception of his last start he’s looked outstanding this season. It will be hard for the Blue Jays to get a lot of production against him.
