The French Open is taking place in Paris over the next two weeks. This years tournament will run from May 25th to June 8th. Carlos Alcaraz is in the field as the defending champ. He’s had a strong clay court season, winning 2 of the 3 events he’s entered, including defeating Jannik Sinner in the finals in Rome. Sinner is the second favourite after winning the two most recent Grand Slam tournaments. There is a significant drop to Novak Djokovic as the third favourite. Djokovic has struggled this season, but has shown the ability to find his game in Grand Slam events. In the women’s tournament Iga Swiatek is the second favourite behind world #1 Aryna Sabalenka. Swiatek has won the last 3 French Open tournaments, but has not been at her best in 2025.
As a Canadian tennis fan it should be an exciting tournament with Felix Auger-Aliassime, Denis Shapovalov, Victoria Mboko, and Leylah Annie Fernandez all in the mix (although none have shorter than 200-1 odds to win the tournament).

Let’s take a look at the odds for Men’s and Women’s singles. The below screenshots were taken from Sports Interaction on May 23rd. The odds will change throughout the tournament. Alcaraz and Sinner are the favourites leading into the tournament, while Djokovic and Zverev are considered contenders.
Felix Auger-Aliassime has odds of 200-1 and Denis Shapovalov has odds of 400-1 entering the tournament.
Alcaraz and Sinner are playing great tennis so it would be a surprise if one of these two young phenoms doesn’t win the tournament in Paris.
Sabalenka and Swiatek are the favourites, while youngsters Gauff and Andreeva are the other top contenders. Swiatek has won tournament in 2020, 2022, 2023, and 2024, so if she can find her A-game she should have a great chance to win another French Open. The best of three sets matches results in more variance in the women’s game. All it takes is a poor stretch of tennis against another elite athlete and an upset could occur. I think it would be smarter to look for longer odds rather than taking one of the favourites. I like Fernandez at long shot odds of 250-1.
