The 2026 FIFA World Cup gets underway this Thursday, June 11th and will run until the World Cup Finals on July 19th with Canada, USA, and Mexico sharing hosting duties for the tournament. Canada will host 13 matches, with BMO Field in Toronto hosting 6 matches and BC Place in Vancouver hosting 7 matches, including one of the quarterfinals. This will be the first year that the FIFA World Cup has expanded to 48 teams (from the typical 32 nations of recent World Cups).
The Canadian Men’s National team gained automatic entry into the tournament due to their hosting status. Team Canada will start the tournament in Group B, which includes Bosnia and Herzegovina, Qatar, and Switzerland. This Canadian Men’s National team is very strong on paper and they are favoured to make it out of the group stage as they look to make a deep run in the tournament. The media coverage surrounding Team Canada and the World Cup will be significant throughout the tournament.
