The one Canadian PGA Tour event is set to take place this weekend at the Glen Abbey Golf Course in Oakville, Ontario. The odds took a while to get up as the sportsbooks were still figuring out which players would be in attendance after The Open Championship in Scotland spilled into Monday. There have been a few withdrawals, but it still looks like there will be a very strong field competing in Canada this week.
DraftKings.com is running a $350K contest with a $3 entry fee and $100,000 to first place, and also a $20 entry fee contest with $200k in prizes. It’s not quite the Millionaire Maker, but these are still big exciting contests. Click here to enter.
Now, let’s move on to my favourite picks for the coming week at Glen Abbey.
Bubba Watson – $11,100
I really like Bubba to win the tournament this week. His odds at SportsInteraction.com are 16/1 and I’m going to be putting some money down on that as well as taking him in the majority of my DraftKings lineups. Bubba didn’t perform too well last week at The Open, missing the cut with a +3, but his game has never been ideal overseas. The wind really affected him and I expect him to be back on his game this week in Canada. He hasn’t really had a lot of success at Glen Abbey in the past, but he’s playing well with a win at the Travelers Championships and a 13th place finish at the Greenbrier Classic the two weeks before The Open. I also kind of like that he missed the cut at The Open to give himself more time to regroup and get ready for Canada.
Steve Stricker – $8700
He’s only played in 7 tournaments this year, but he’s always a threat to win when he’s in the field. I like that he didn’t play The Open so he won’t have to deal with fatigue from jet-lag or a late run at the The Open. He’s made 5 of 7 cuts this season and I think he’s ready to break out after playing a bit more golf in July.
SportsInteraction.com has him at 44/1 to win the tournament, which makes $8700 great value.
Kevin Chappell – $7300
Here is another guy who didn’t play The Open last week, which meant he could keep his game tailored to the North American style of course. He’s made 7 straight cuts since after the Players Championship and I think he’s ready to break through. He’s rested and ready this week, which I think will be key.
Chappell is actually my favourite play at DraftKings this week. If he doesn’t perform my lineups will not be winning any money. He has odds of 51/1 at SportsInteraction.com to win the tournament, which makes his $7300 price tag an absolute steal this week.
Ollie Schniederjans – $6200
Schniederjans is one guy who performed well at The Open who I like for my team. As an amateur I think performing well at The Open will give him confidence as he makes his pro debut this week. He made the cut in both the US Open and British Open playing as an amateur this year and I don’t see any reason why he won’t continue to succeed now that he’s turning pro. He’s performed in pressure spots this year and seeing as it’s his first pro tournament he will definitely be mounting some pressure on himself.
I also like him as a 127/1 dog at SportsInteraction.com this week.
Graham DeLaet $9000, David Hearn $7100, Brad Fritsch $6200
Apart from those four picks I also like the top Canadians in the field this week. DeLaet played very well at The Open last week, while Hearn also made the cut and Brad Fritsch remained home to and prepared for Glen Abbey.
