I had a ton of exposure to Cam Newton last week, which pretty much kept me from doing well on DraftKings even though many of my other plays were solid. This week, I’m hoping my QB to receiver stacks are on point, so I can avoid that same scenario.
Also, check out my running back plays for week 5 here.
Ben Roethlisberger ($7200) + Antonio Brown ($9800)
This is a very expensive stack, but this is the perfect spot for Antonio Brown this week. He had a slow week 4 with only 4 catches for 64 yards, which would have kept him with very low production if it wasn’t for his two early touchdowns. This week he’s in the perfect spot against a Jets defense that is 21st in the league against opposing WR’s on DraftKings and an injury to Darrelle Revis could force the Jets to put out an even worse corner on Brown this week than the ageing future hall of famer.
This looks to me like an Antonio Brown week and I for one will be paying up in a lot of my lineups for Brown and pairing him with Big Ben in most of those.
Kirk Cousins ($6100) + Jamison Crowder ($4600) or Pierre Garcon ($3900)
This is a stack that I think will be very low owned, but is intriguing to me with its upside. Kirk Cousins has played better these past two weeks with 5 touchdowns and just 1 interception in a couple wins for the Redskins. That said, his DK point totals have actually not gotten past 20 points and that’s because of the game script, which did not have him being forced to throw the ball late in games. Looking back to weeks 1 and 2 though Cousins is able to put up some big passing yard numbers if the Redskins fall behind, which is entirely possible this week on the road against the Ravens. If Cousins can pair his solid touchdown performances with big passing yards against a Ravens defense known for shutting down the run, this could be a big week for Cousins.
I expect Cousins to spread the ball around against the Ravens, which is why I like paying down to either Crowder or Garcon as your stack options. The Ravens are very strong against the deep ball, which should reduce the upside of DeSean Jackson in this game. They’re also very good at limiting tight ends, which could bring down Jordan Reeds production. The ball still has to go somewhere though and both Crowder and Garcon are great possession receivers that could have big games if they put up a stat line that looks something like 6 catches for 80 yards and a touchdown.
This stack also allows you to pay up for some of the high end receivers who are in great spots this week.
Eli Manning ($6000) + Odell Beckham Jr. ($8,500)
One of those high end receivers that’s in a great spot is Odell Beckham Jr. The Packers are the 2nd worst defense against opposing wide receivers on DraftKings and according to FootballOutsiders.com they’re also the 2nd worst defense against WR1’s. This bodes extremely well for OBJ who is in dire need of a big game after a very poor start to the season that has him yet to catch a touchdown to go along with a lot of bad publicity lately.
Manning is in a great spot here against another offense that will be putting up points. When Manning gets behind in games he does have the ability to turn into a gun slinger who can easily pass 300 yards passing in a game. I think Manning will be forced to throw early and often in this game and he’ll need to look to OBJ a ton to get his star receiver’s head back in the game.
The majority of my exposure this week will be going to the Big Ben + Brown and Eli + OBJ stacks. I think both of those high end wide receivers are in great spots and their QB’s will be the ones to get them the ball.
