It’s the last big fantasy week of the year because a lot of people shy away from Week 17, when it’s often anyone’s guess how much usage each player will get with the playoff picture usually close to set. David Johnson was on my radar in the week 15 targets article, and going off for 47.9 points he was almost a must start for your DraftKings team if you wanted to hit a big payday.
Hopefully we hit the big one again this week, while also filling out a nice lineup in the other positions.
David Johnson ($5800)
David Johnson absolutely went off last week for 47.9 points as the Cardinals thrashed the Eagles on the road. Johnson had 187 yards and 3 touchdowns on 29 carries, while also adding in 4 receptions for 42 yards. Johnson was the Cardinals third running back to start the year, but a couple injuries gave him the opportunity and he’s ran with it. Nobody ever questioned his ability or explosiveness, so now that he is the top dog in Arizona he’s almost a plug-in play most weeks because of this teams offensive ability. Andre Ellington looks like he may miss another week, which will give David Johnson the reins to run the ball for this offense.
DeAngelo Williams ($6500)
Williams is about as consistent of a running back that you can ask for. He’s another workhorse back for a high octane offense, which means he will have holes to run through and get lots of touches late in the game. This week the Steelers take on the Ravens, who have a pretty solid run defense, but the fact that the Steelers should build a big lead in this one will lead to Williams getting plenty of touches.
Denard Robinson ($5400)
I don’t generally like rostering Jacksonville running backs, but now that Robinson is getting both the 20-20 and goal line carries, he’s playing the worst run defense in the league and he showed last week that the Jags trust him in the passing game, I think he’s a great play. I don’t see him not breaking 20 fantasy points in this game against the Saints, and at $5400 that’s a good floor.
Bilal Powell ($3900)
If you want to pay down at running back look no further than Jets passing back Bilal Powell. He’s now had 20 receptions over the past 3 weeks and he’s getting a few more touches in the run game as well. He’s found the endzone in each of the last 3 weeks and if that trend can continue he’s an absolute steal at $3900.
I’m probably going to be focusing mostly on the top three running backs I’ve listed here, but I’ll also be paying down to Powell in a few lineups.
