The 2023 Pegasus World Cup (official website) takes place this Saturday, January 28th at Gulfstream Park in Florida. This years prize pool has remained at $3 million with no entry fee. The Pegasus World Cup is no longer the richest horse race in the world like it was in 2017 & 2018, but it’s still a prestigious race with a large purse that will entice the top horses in the world to participate.
Cyberknife, Proxy, Skippylongstocking, and Defunded are the four top contenders heading into this years race according to the morning line odds.
This is a massive race that brings eyes back to horse racing a few months after the Breeders’ Cup. I know a lot of people are excited to get back to betting on horses this season. Below I’ve outlined the early odds for the race and also provided a quick 3 step guide for Canadians to get your Pegasus World Cup bets in this year.
2023 Pegasus World Cup Betting Odds
Here are the morning line odds for the race (and post positions):
- Proxy 9-2
- Simplification 15-1
- Riding with Biden 20-1
- White Abarrio 10-1
- Defunded 6-1
- Art Collector 10-1
- Skippylongstocking 5-1
- Get Her Number 15-1
- Last Samurai 20-1
- Cyberknife 5-2
- Stilleto Boy 30-1
- O’Connor 10-1
As you can see Cyberknife is the favourite, while Proxy, Skippylongstocking, and Defunded are the other top contenders.
I personally like Proxy to win the race at odds of 9-2. He’s a specialist on dirt tracks at this 1 1/8 mile distance, and is coming off a win at the Clark Stakes in November, where he posted a strong time of 1:48.89. If he can find some room out of the gate, I think Proxy has the speed and winning mentality to cross the finish line first in this field.
