The 2020 Belmont Stakes will take place at Belmont Park this Saturday June 20th, but there will be some major differences between this years race and the traditional Belmont Stakes. This years race will be the first race of the American Triple Crown (instead of the third) and it will be run at a length of 1 1/8 miles instead of the traditional 1 1/2 miles.
With the Belmont Stakes being the first leg of this years Triple Crown, I expect the hype, fanfare and sports betting action that usually accompanies the Kentucky Derby. For this reason I wanted to add this simple 3 step guide to betting on the Belmont Stakes for all of the new bettors eager to get some action on the Belmont Stakes this year.
Bet On 2020 Belmont Stakes in Canada – Step By Step Guide
#1. Open a Sportsbook Account
The first thing you need to do is open an account at an online sportsbook that also provides a quality racebook. I recommend that Canadians sign up at SportsInteraction.com, our top rated sportsbook. They’re currently offering a 100% up to $200 sign up bonus and have one of the easiest to use racebooks I’ve seen in the industry. Check out our full Sports Interaction review for a more detailed breakdown.
The bonus offer is 100% up to $200 and it’s very easy to clear, so I suggest depositing $200 or more in order to take full advantage of the free money.
#3. Place Your Belmont Stakes Bets
Now that you have funds online you’re ready to place your wagers.
Leading To Race Day
If you’re ready to place your Belmont Stakes bets before race day you can do so in the SportsInteraction.com Sportsbook. Click on the ‘Horse Racing’ tab and then the ‘Belmont Stakes’ link. This will bring up the Belmont Stakes futures odds as shown below. These are fixed odds so when you place your bet the wager is locked in at these odds.

On Race Day
On race day the betting is done a little bit differently. You can place your bets in the Sports Interaction Racebook, which you can find by clicking on ‘Racebook’ in the top navigation bar of the Sports Interaction website. Next you’ll need to select Belmont Park under the ‘American Thoroughbred’ tab. Select ‘Jun 20’ and race #10 for the Belmont Stakes.
Here’s a screenshot for this years Belmont Stakes showing a “win” bet on Tiz the Law:
The betting in the Racebook is different because it’s done using the parimutuel betting system. This basically means that the odds are determined by the amount of money bet on each horse through the day. In other words the odds can change between when you place your bet and when the bets are locked in when the race starts. Learn more on our parimutuel betting page here.
You’ll also notice there are a few varieties of betting options including win, place or show, and exotic bets such as exacta, trifecta or superfecta. I suggest checking out our horse racing betting info page if you’re new to horse race wagering.
