2019 Canadian International Betting Odds and How To Bet Guide

The Sports Betting Canadian

The Canadian International Stakes (official race info) is really the last big race of the year at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto and it always brings with it a lot of fanfare.  The race doesn’t have the strongest field this year, but viewers will get to see Ziyad and Desert Encounter, a couple of solid horses, battle it for their share of the the $800,000 purse.

There are 6 horses set to compete in this years Canadian International.  Ziyad is the favourite heading into the race at odds of 1/1, while Desert Encounter, last years winner, is the second favourite at odds of 2-1.

The Canadian International will be broadcast on TSN4 from 5-6pm EST this Saturday.

2019 Canadian International Stakes Morning Line Odds

Below I’ve outlined the morning line odds for the Canadian International.  I should note that the odds are not fixed and can change throughout the day depending on the bets that come in on the horses on race day.  Learn more about how this works on our parimutuel betting page.

  • Ziyad 1/1
  • Desert Encounter 2-1
  • Alounak 6-1
  • Nessy 8-1
  • Pivoine 10-1
  • Pumpkin Rumble 15-1

Ziyad is the favourite heading into the race at odds of 1/1. He’s coming off a win at the Grand Prix de Deuville and has made a career of performing well at these longer races. That said, he’s only won the one race this season, so the door is open for a horse like Desert Encounter.

Desert Encounter won the race last year with odds of 6/1. This year he’s just 2/1 to repeat with the field being smaller and somewhat weaker. Desert Encounter has also won three straight heading into the race so he could be peaking at the right time.

The horse I will be betting to win this week is Desert Encounter for all of the reasons I outlined above. This horse has posted times just as fast as Ziyad and he’s shown he’s a winner of late. He’s the defending champion and is in great form having won 3 straight. Sure, they were G3 races overseas, but he’s still crossing the line first which is what I want to see out of my horses.  Here’s the video of the Desert Encounter winning last years Canadian International to get you pumped up about his chances:
