2017 Canadian International Betting Odds and How To Bet Guide

The Sports Betting CanadianThe Canadian International Stakes (official race info) is really the last big race of the year at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto and it always brings with it a lot of fanfare.  Once again the race has delivered in bringing in some high end talent to Woodbine this Sunday to compete for the $1,000,000 purse.

The favourite from last year, Idaho, is back and is looking to improve on last years fifth place finish after having the same 5/2 odds to win last years race as well.  The horse who defeated Idaho in 2016, Erupt, is also back this year as the second favourite in the race at odds of 7/2, down significantly from the 6/1 odds he won the race at last year.  Other notable horses with a shot at the win include Chemical Charge, Flamboyant, Oscar Nominated and Messi.

2017 Canadian International Stakes Morning Line Odds

Below I’ve outlined the morning line odds for the Canadian International.  I should note that the odds are not fixed and can change throughout the day depending on the bets that come in on the horses on race day.  Learn more about how this works on our parimutuel betting page.

  • Idaho 5/2
  • Erupt 7/2
  • Chemical Charge 5/1
  • Flamboyant 6/1
  • Oscar Nominated 8/1
  • Messi 8/1
  • Johnny Bear 12/1
  • Postulation 12/1
  • Enterprising 20/1

Idaho is the favourite, but I can’t get past the fact that he finished 5th here last year and has only 1 win in 5 races since, and that was at a Grade 2 race with a fairly weak field.

Erupt has not won since last years Canadian International and I’m not overly convinced he will be able to get the job done two years in a row.  I think his odds will be bet down so I don’t think there will be a lot of value here.

The horse I will be betting to win this week is Johnny Bear at opening odds of 12/1.  He’s coming off a win at the Norther Dancer Turf Stakes, which was a Grade 1 race of the same length on this same track.  Johnny Bear won the Norther Dancer in the fastest time it’s been won since 2009 and I think this horse has the speed to put down another fast race and get a big win over a slightly stronger field this Sunday.  Here’s the video of the Northern Dancer to get you pumped up about Johnny Bear’s chances:
