The Toronto Blue Jays arrive in New York today to begin a 4 game series with the Yankees.

Toronto Blue Jays (77-74) @ New York Yankees (77-74)

The Toronto Blue Jays come in to today’s match-up with the Yankees losers of their last 4 and 5 of their last 6 games. Yesterday they were defeated 6-1 at Baltimore. Starter J.A. Happ was saddled with his 9th loss of the season. He pitched 6 innings as gave up 4 earned runs on 8 hits. In getting swept (in 3 games) by the Orioles they were outscored 19-5. The Jays have been eliminated from the chance of winning the AL East division title but still have a faint hope of getting the 2nd wildcard spot in the AL as they are 6 games behind the A’s. Their starting pitcher tonight is right-handed R.A. Dickey. Dickey has a 13-12 record with a 3.84 era and 162 strikeouts in 196.2 innings pitched. He has won his last 3 last 4 starts. In the 3 starts combined he gave up a total of 6 earned runs. He lasted 7 innings in all 3 starts.  The New York Yankees snapped their 3 game losing skid with a 3-2 victory at Tampa Bay yesterday. Starter Brandon McCarthy grabbed his 10th win of the season. McCarthy pitched 7 innings as gave up 2 earned runs on 4 hits. Reliever David Robertson picked up his 37th save. The Yankees also have been eliminated from the chance of winning the AL East division title but they too have a slim chance of getting the 2nd wildcard spot in the AL as they are 6 games behind the A’s. Their starting pitcher tonight is right-handed Shane Greene. Greene has a 5-3 record with a 3.56 era and 70 strikeouts in 68.1 innings pitched. In his last outing, a start on September 13th at Baltimore, he recorded the win as he pitched 5.1 innings while giving up 2 earned runs on 7 hits while striking out 9 batters. He is 2-2 in his last 4 starts.

Toronto is 36-41 on the road this season. New York is 38-35 at home this season.

The Yankees are 8-7 versus the Blue Jays this season.

Prediction: Both teams are fighting for the very slim chance that they could slip in to the 2nd wildcard spot in the AL but realistically neither team looks like they want to keep playing. I’m going with the Yankees just because they are the home team.

Take the Yankees 1.80 (Bet365)
