The spread for the big game has changed dramatically over the past week. As many of you have probably heard it started out in Vegas with the Seahawks as -2.5 point favourites. Then within just a couple hours the Seahawks were down to just 1 point favourites and before much longer it was a pick’em game. Now that Patriots have moved into the favourite position with most online sportsbooks offering the Patriots as either 1, 1.5 or 2 point favourites.

This is a significant difference between sportsbooks, so make sure you’re betting at the one that gives you the biggest spread because this could definitely be a very close game.
My Pick
I’m taking the Seahawks +2. I actually thought the original spread of the Seahawks -2.5 was the most accurate so far, so I’m very happy with the line movement. That said the line definitely will not move to Seahawks +3 so I’m happy to get my bets in now at the current spread.
The Seahawks had a hard time against the Packers and I think that may have something to do with the line movement this year. If you remember a week before the Conference Championship games the bookies were already predicting a 2.5 point spread if both the favourites won their games. Well, both favourites did win, but the Patriots did it in much more convincing fashion than the Seahawks who had to mount a big fourth quarter comeback.
It’s easy to look at those Conference Championship games and think that the Patriots are in better form at the moment than the Seahawks, but I’m choosing to look at it a different way. The Seahawks were down 19-7 with 4 minutes left in the 4th quarter. Russell Wilson was having the worst playoff game of his NFL career and he had just thrown his 4th interception of the game on his first pass of their last drive with 5 minutes left. The team simply refused to quit and they showed belief in each other to stop Green Bay with a 3 and out to give Wilson the ball back. He went down the field in just 1:43 to score a touchdown in just 6 plays. The onside kick worked and then Wilson went 50 yards in just 44 seconds to put Seattle up by a field goal.
The Seahawks are just winners. Wilson is not going to throw 4 interceptions against the Patriots. New England’s offense is not any better than Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. The Seahawks will not get manhandled at the line like the Colts seemed to last weekend. The Seahawks were touted to win the Super Bowl to kick off the season and for good reason. After a shaky start to the season the Seahawks have now won 8 straight and are even winning when they’re playing their worst games.
This team simply gets it done and that’s exactly what I’m expecting this Sunday.
