NFL Week 1 DraftKings RB Targets

Sports Betting Canadian Mascot FootballWith DK putting out the prices about a month early for week 1 there have been a few injuries that have created some great value plays at running back.  I’m going to be paying down at RB quite a bit this week in order to go after some more high end wide receivers (check out my QB + receiver stacks post). is running an absolutely massive $5M guaranteed Milly Maker for week 1 with a buy-in of only $3.  I would not be surprised at all if this contest doesn’t fill.  There’s definitely some good value tourneys at DK this week.

Now on to my running back targets to kick off the season.

All prices are from  To check out our full DraftKings review click here.

Lamar Miller ($7,000)

lamar-millerMiller is my favourite high end running back to kick off the season.  Miller was a force last season in terms of yards per carry, but the Dolphins simply didn’t give him a chance to put up big numbers with him usually finishing games with under 10 carries.  It was a very strange strategy by the Dolphins when you have someone as talented as Miller running the ball, and I’m excited to see how Miller can do on a Texans team that likes to run.

Miller is the consensus #3 running back for week 1 at and he comes in as the 5th highest priced RB on DK, so he’s fairly good value as well.  This is one of the few spots I’ll be spending up at RB this week.

Jeremy Langford ($4,700)

Jeremy LangfordLangford is probably the RB I like least of these four, but I think he’s a great GPP play.  At $4,700 he’s a cheap play and most people will likely be on Spencer Ware for $300 cheaper.  Langford is the feature back for the Bears this season and he has a very high floor in this road game against the Texans.  If the Bears can stay in this game Langford will get lots of work.  He’s shown in the past that he can have big games on the road against strong defenses.  Take last years game against the Rams as an example.  Langford had 73 yards on 20 carries, 109 yards on 7 receptions and 2 TD’s for 40.2 points.

I’m not saying Langford is for sure going to go ham this week, but I think it’s a spot where the ceiling is very high for Langford and I don’t expect him to have very high ownership.

Spencer Ware ($4,400)

spencer-wareIt looks like Spencer Ware is going to be the starting RB for the Chiefs in week 1 with Jamaal Charles still nursing an injury.  West might eat into some of Wares carries, but at this price tag Ware presents tremendous value against a very weak Chargers run defense.  In cash games Ware is close to a must play, while in tournaments he will be high owned, but I’ll still have some exposure.

The Chiefs will likely get a lead in this game and then turn to Ware to smash the weak Chargers defense.  I see Ware as having a high floor with the ability to break out for a TD or two.  He’s ranked as the #16 RB by Fantasy Pros and has the 35th highest price on DK.

James White ($3,600)

james-whiteIf you really want to pay down at RB look no further than James White at $3,600.  With Dion Lewis out, White will be the feature pass catching back for that Pats.  With Brady out I expect the Pats to be behind from the beginning in this game against Arizona.  This should bring up more pass throwing opportunities with James White on the field.  He’s up against a tough defense, but the game flow could really help White in this one and Garoppolo may look to dump the ball off often against a tough Cards defense, which could lead to White getting a lot of catches and racking up the DK points.

You never really know how the Pats are going to game plan, but we saw Dion Lewis go off for several monster games last season and even White had some huge games as the pass catching back last season, such as his 10 catch 115 yard and a touchdown performance against the Eagles last year.  The floor may be low on White, but the ceiling is very high, which makes him a very exciting GPP play.
