CFL Week 20 Betting Picks 2017

The Roughriders were the only team that covered the spread for me in week 19.  The 1-3 record from last week brings my season long record to just .500 at 35-35-1.  That only leaves this week to get back in the black.

I’ll be using SportsInteraction.com for my CFL picks all season long.  They’re our top rated sportsbook and they are an in-game sponsor of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats this season, which shows their commitment to the CFL.  You can check out our full SIA review here.

Montreal Alouettes @ Hamilton Tiger-Cats

  • Montreal +13.5
  • Hamilton -13.5

I can’t possibly back the Alouettes anymore.  They lost by 25 points again last week and also lost to this same Ti-Cats team by 27 in Montreal in week 18.  The Alouettes have completely checked out of the season and have now lost 8 games in a row by double digits.  They are 0-8 on the road this season and I don’t expect them to find that first road win here in week 20.

The Ti-Cats have actually continued to play well after being eliminated from the playoffs.  They kept the game close in Ottawa last week, in a big game for the Redblacks, and like I said above they destroyed Montreal a couple weeks ago.  Hamilton has really been a solid team in the second half of the season and if they can get up for this last game of the season I fully expect them to cover this spread at home against Montreal.

Play: Ti-Cats -13.5

Winnipeg Blue Bombers @ Calgary Stampeders

  • Winnipeg +10.5
  • Calgary -10.5

Calgary has really faltered down the stretch.  I’m not sure what is going on with this team, but losing by 9 points in Edmonton last week, after getting blown out at home by the Roughriders is cause for concern.  Calgary has just not looked the same since their bye in week 16.

If the Stamps have mailed it in for the post-season they better hope they can find their game when it matters.  The Bombers do have something to play for in this game with second place and home-field advantage in the West Division semi-finals on the line.  A win solidifies their spot in second place and I fully expect them to play hard for that home field.

The fact the Bombers have something to play for combined with the Stamps recent struggles leads me to take the Bombers to cover this spread.

Play: Blue Bombers +10.5

Edmonton Eskimos @ Saskatchewan Roughriders

  • Edmonton +5
  • Saskatchewan -5

This is an interesting game because the winner will stay in the West, while the loser will cross over to the East playoffs.  I actually think it’s in either teams best interest to cross into the East, which is why I’m taking the Eskimos in this game.

Edmonton has now strung together 4 straight wins and I don’t think they will want to mess with that momentum just to get an easier game in the East Division.  The Eskies have been playing some solid football and I don’t expect them to take their foot off the gas.

The Roughriders, on the other hand may see an opportunity to stay in 4th place in the West and cross over to play either the Argos and Redblacks in their two game road to the Grey Cup.  It’s surely the easier road than going through Winnipeg and Calgary, so if this slips into the players minds we may see a less than spirited effort by Saskatchewan on Saturday.

Play: Eskimos +5

Toronto Argonauts @ BC Lions

  • Toronto +1
  • BC -1

The Argos have everything to play for in this game.  They need to get the win and the bye into the East Division Finals by leapfrogging Ottawa for the division lead.  Toronto has been playing some solid football of late and I expect them to have a big game with so much on the line.

BC went into Winnipeg and won last week, which was very surprising considering the spread was 6 points in favour of Winnipeg.  That was only the second win in the last 10 games for BC, and I’m not convinced they really turned things around just from that one performance.  The Lions are only 3-5 at home this season, and without anything to play for I can’t see them matching the intensity of Toronto in this one.

Play: Argonauts +1
