CFL Week 2 Betting Picks 2017

It’s always very difficult to handicap CFL games early in the season, so I’m not too disappointed with going 2-2 in week 1 to start off the season.  The Alouettes won their game, but weren’t able to cover the 7 point spread, while the Stamps and Redblacks tied 31-31 in a game that was eerily similar to their 26-26 tie in their first meeting last season.  Luckily for me, the Eskimos and Argonauts both put up wins as underdogs to easily cover their respective spreads and keep me .500 on the season.

I’ll be using SportsInteraction.com for my CFL picks all season long.  They’re our top rated sportsbook and they are an in-game sponsor of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats this season, which shows their commitment to the CFL.  You can check out our full SIA review here.

Ottawa Redblacks @ Calgary Stampeders

  • Ottawa +7
  • Calgary -7

The Redblacks did very well to tie the game with the Stamps in Ottawa last week.  Brendan Gillanders had a big day on the ground and Trevor Harris picked up right where he left off when healthy from last season throwing for 300 yards.  Ottawa almost pulled off the upset, up two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, but Calgary was able to dig deep and put together two solid drives to tie up the game.

I don’t expect the Stamps to fall behind in the same manner at home and I still believe them to be the superior team between these two squads.  Those two late TD’s should give the offense confidence heading home and I expect the Stamps to find the endzone several times this Thursday en route to covering the 7 point spread.

Play: Stampeders -7

BC Lions @ Toronto Argonauts

  • BC +1.5
  • Toronto -1.5

The Lions lost be 3 points at home to the Eskies last week, while the Argos pulled off an upset at home over the Ti-Cats.  That said, I’m not ready to throw the Lions under the bus or anoint the Argos as contenders this year.  It should be back to reality for both teams this week with BC getting the win on the road to show that the West is once again the superior division this year.

I’m very surprised that the Argos are favourites this week considering they were dogs at home to the Ti-Cats last week, and the Lions are a far superior team to the Ti-Cats.  I expect both of these teams to be 1-1 after this week and would advise you to place money line bets on the Lions this week as well.

Play: Lions +1.5

Montreal Alouettes @ Edmonton Eskimos

  • Montreal +9
  • Edmonton -9

The Ekimos had a great game last week and heading home I expected them to be about a touchdown favourite against the Alouettes this week.  I wanted to be on the Eskies if the spread was closer to 6 points, but this is simply too many points against a Montreal team that has done everything they’ve been asked of so far this season.  Montreal pulled out the win over Saskatchewan last week and absolutely destroyed the Redblacks in the final game of the preseason.  I still have my suspicions that the Alouettes may be in for a long year, but it’s far too early to start giving up 9 points to anyone other than the Stamps this year for pretty much any team in the CFL.

Play: Alouettes +9

Winnipeg Blue Bombers @ Saskatchewan Roughriders

  • Winnipeg -1
  • Saskatchewan +1

The Blue Bombers had week 1 off and they should be ready to go with a great gameplan against the Roughriders.  The Blue Bombers will be eager to get their season underway and will not take this Roughrider team lightly to kick off the season.

These two teams tied in Saskatchewan in their first preseason game, but I think the Bombers are the more talented team and the extra week of preparation should help them get the win on the road this week.

Play: Blue Bombers -1
